When Is The Best Time To Get A Sports Massage?
Your Sports Massage & Stretching session can be carried out before, during, or after playing sports or exercising. Sessions can be tailored as a pre-workout stretch and opportunity to warm up the muscles, or as a post-workout massage designed to reduce soreness and increase flexibility.
Speak with your therapist to develop a plan to meet your goals. Your therapist will customize each session to meet your needs, and may incorporate techniques that are designed to increase endurance and performance, minimize the chances of injury and, if there is an injury, reduce the recovery time.

Sessions begin with functional assessment which may include muscle testing, asking questions, and range of motion exercises. Your massage therapist will draw on their experience and advanced training to address your individual needs during each session. A variety of specific, practical applications will likely be used including Swedish massage, neuromuscular therapy, MET, myofascial release, trigger point release, neuromuscular, Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques, scar tissue mobilization techniques, kneading, friction, active/passive stretching, as well as complimentary hot/cold therapies and liniments. |
This type of massage is specifically tailored to sporting injuries or ailments. It is not meant to be a passive, relaxing massage experience. It can sometimes be quite strenuous and can help relieve chronic pain and tension, constriction, adhesions, fatigue, and ischemia or trigger points that accumulate due to injuries, repetitive motions, poor posture or other unbalanced use of the body.
Therapeutic massage helps to realign collagen fibers, break up scar tissue, decrease muscle spasms, and improve range of motion and posture, and relieve and reduce the stress and tension that can build up within the body’s soft tissues while exercising or engaging in other activities. Sports massage is not only for professional athletes or people that exercise heavily. It is of benefit to anyone that engages in strenuous, repetitive activities or exercises, even if it is only mild exercise such as regular walking.
Make Massage Therapy a Part of Your Fitness Plan
It’s important to note that therapists and the latest scientific research suggest that a massage here and there is nice, but won’t give you the same benefits as a regular massage program. Like exercise itself, the benefits are cumulative, meaning the more regularly you receive a massage, the more you’ll benefit. Think of it as preventative maintenance.
